The Armed Forces of Ukraine have successfully stopped the russian army’s advance in the Pokrovsk direction. Ukrainian defenders are not only holding back enemy assaults but also counterattacking and reclaiming previously occupied positions. Realizing that Ukraine’s defenses in this sector are well-organized, Russian forces have begun concentrating their troops in the southern part of the Donetsk region.

Ukrainian successes in the Pokrovsk Sector
Over the past one and a half weeks, the intensity of russian advances near Pokrovsk has significantly decreased, along with a noticeable decline in assault operations. This is due to the effective actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and logistical problems faced by russian troops.
“The Defense Forces’ efforts have played a crucial role, forcing the enemy to focus on regaining lost positions rather than launching new assaults. It is safe to say that the Russians are experiencing logistical and resource difficulties near Pokrovsk, both in manpower and equipment. These logistical issues complicate troop rotations, the evacuation of seriously wounded soldiers (who are often left behind), and the delivery of ammunition, medical supplies, and food,” analysts stated.
Russian forces often attempt assaults using civilian vehicles and motorized carts, while their logistics rely on donkeys and horses. Despite these limitations, the occupiers still manage to conduct small-scale attacks with just a few soldiers at a time, aiming to exhaust Ukrainian troops.

At the same time, Ukraine’s Armed Forces have successfully launched counterattacks. In addition to reclaiming positions in Pishchane and Lysivka, Ukrainian forces have now liberated Kotlyne as well.
Where Russia Is Concentrating Troops in Donetsk Region
Lacking success near Pokrovsk, Russian forces have shifted their focus to the southern part of Donetsk Oblast, increasing pressure in the areas of Kurakhove and Velyka Novosilka.
They continue to amass troops, including both infantry and armored vehicles, possibly in preparation for an offensive. On February 26, Russian troops advanced near Burlatske and in the village of Andriivka.

Currently, the most intense fighting near Kurakhove is taking place in the Andriivka–Konstantynopil–Ulakly area, while near Velyka Novosilka, the most contested locations are the village of Skudne and the settlement of Burlatske.
